Bar Scene in Walla Walla, WA

We booked our trip to Walla Walla with the intention of testing out a few wineries, but after a few too many glasses of cab, we simply had to get back to our roots: Beer. We decided to launch our tour of the local bars with a round of Pub Golf - one of our favorite drinking games. (Learn how to play here)
Walla Walla is definitely known for it’s wine, but let’s be honest, sometimes you’re just looking for a fun night out. So if wine’s not your thing, or if you’re just looking for a good time, Walla Walla has plenty of great bar options as well.
Is Walla Walla the wine capital of Washington? We think it might actually be the karaoke capitol of Washington! Surprisingly, two of our top recommendations are karaoke bars. We typically aren’t big on karaoke, but there’s just something about the city that makes all your inhibitions go away. Or maybe it was just the beer…
Anyways, here’s a list of some of our favorite spots in Walla Walla. There’s a little something for everyone whether you’re looking for a casual place to enjoy a draft or a Chinese restaurant that doubles as a karaoke bar.
Green Lantern Tavern
If there’s a bar to make yourself a local at, this may be the one. Green Lantern is a cozy tavern that makes you feel like you just stumbled into a cabin on top of the Rockies. We loved that the bar was separated by a sunken area great for catching a game on the huge projector screen. Super laid back and tons of fun. We heard the food is solid, and if you’re looking to hang out outside, the patio is a great choice.
Perfect for: Catching a game with a burger and a pint.
Locust Cider
If you’re from Washington, there’s a chance you’ve seen them around. Their taproom in Walla Walla is super laid back and is a great spot to try out some unique brews and ciders. The drinks were tasty and differed from some of the more traditional beer selections in town. They also have a variety of personal pizzas that were exactly what we needed after a 7 game Ping Pong matchup that made the Warriors-Cavs series feel like child’s play. We probably should have brought more deodorant, but all in all we had a blast here. We highly recommend taking your family here for some food, drinks and games.
Perfect for: Grabbing a flight with a group of friends, playing ping pong, or turning back the clock with some Nintendo 64.
TMACS
We stumbled into TMACS via a street recommendation. It’s much higher class than any of the other bars we checked out while in town. It has a cool atmosphere with limited beer options - nothing domestic (sorry frat bros). It’s pretty quiet and mellow, so it’s not a spot we’d recommend slamming beers at. If we’re being honest this is simply an upscale restaurant that serves beer. Nothing wrong with that, just come here towards the beginning of your night.
TMACS could be a good option if the rest of your group is still on the wine kick and you’re dying for a brew (like us).
Perfect for: Starting your night off with a German pilsner and an appetizer.
Marcy’s Bar and Lounge
Marcy’s is just a great hang out spot. It’s pretty laid back and casual, and is the perfect setting if you and your buddies want to play a game of cards while having a few drinks. They have some comfy seats towards the front with regular tables throughout the place. There patio is also an option if you are looking to enjoy the outdoors and maybe catch the occasional live performance from a local band.
Perfect For: Having some casual drinks with friends over a game of cards.
Karaoke Palace
The award for Best Atmosphere goes to Karaoke Palace! You will never get bored at this bar. Every inch of this place has a cool knick-knack or memento from the past. Although, it’s a shame the phone booth only made local calls because by the time we made it there we were down a friend with dead phones.
Perfect for: Capping off the night with some embarrassing karaoke.
Red Monkey
This spot was recommended to us by the local landscaper, if you run into him, tell him we said what’s up. Red Monkey is a classic sports bar reminiscent of Buffalo Wild Wings. It’s a great spot to catch a game over some beers and wings, but it did lack in character compared to some of the other bars in town. There’s nothing wrong with this place, but if you’re looking to have a chat over a couple drinks, this might not be the spot for you. We’d recommend coming here with your family, or to watch a game with some of your buddies.
Perfect For: Chowing down on some wings while watching Red Zone.
Ming Court
When you first pull up to Ming Court you’re gonna think you have the wrong address, because from the outside it just looks like a Chinese restaurant. That’s because it is. You’d never guess it but it also doubles as a karaoke bar. Without a doubt, this is one of the most unique bars we’ve been to and we can’t rave enough about it. Ever sang your heart out to a crowd wrapping up their Beef and Broccoli? Yeah neither had we, but now that we know we can crush Beautiful Girls by Sean Kingston, we’ll certainly be going back. Ming court is a surreal experience that you never knew you needed in your life.
Perfect for: A great story that your friends likely won’t believe.
