Pub Golf: A Drinking Game Fore the Brave

Ever thought about mixing the competitive spirit of golf with the laid-back nature of bar hopping? Well, you’re in luck! Introducing Pub Golf, one of our favorite drinking games for exploring new cities or simply adding a layer of interest to your night out. Whether you’re a seasoned golfer or someone who can’t tell a putter from a driver, this game’s for you. At its core, Pub Golf is a fun and social drinking game, sure to bring laughter, camaraderie, and maybe even a bit of friendly competition to your next pub crawl!

Objective:

To finish the “course” (a predetermined number of bars) with the fewest “strokes” (gulps or chugs of your drink). It’s just like golf, the fewer the strokes, the better your score.

Gameplay:

  1. Setting the Course:

Start by selecting a number of bars you’d like to visit. Each bar represents a “hole” on your golf course. A typical game might have 9 holes, but you can adjust based on your group’s preferences and stamina. (Go for a full 18 if you’re feeling dangerous, although from our experience that’s not always the best idea.)

  2. Scoring System: This is primarily up to you to decide, but here are some general guidelines:

    • Beer: Par 3
    • Cocktails: Par 4
    • Shot/Bomb: Par 1

Feel free to adjust the pars to cater to your group.

The idea is to finish your drink in fewer chugs than the set par. For example, if you’re drinking a beer (Par 3), you’d ideally want to finish it in 1, 2, or 3 chugs to stay on par or score under. Taking 4 chugs would be one over par, and so on.

  3. Choosing Your Drink:

At each bar, every player orders one drink. This is where strategy comes into play! Will you take the easy par by ordering a shot, or will you try for a birdie with a beer or cocktail?

Note: An alternative way to play is by predetermining the drinks and par for each bar.

Here’s what an example scoresheet might look like:

  4. Keeping Score:

Designate a scorekeeper or have everyone track their own scores. At the end of each “hole,” tally up the number of sips taken and compare it to the par.

  5. Winning the Game:

The player with the fewest strokes wins! Hopefully your scorekeeper does a good job because you probably won’t remember your score!

Rules:

  • Classic golf attire is required to play!
  • Don’t forget to yell “FORE!” before every hole

There you have it! Pub Golf is a fantastic way to add a twist to your regular night out. Just remember to be careful! Always know your limits and drink responsibly. Cheers and happy golfing!
